MONARCH'S SPEECH
“On the third Tuesday in September, the monarch will read a speech.” It sounds like something from a fairy tale, but it’s a reality within the Netherlands. This third Tuesday of September is called “Prinsjesdag” (Day of the Little Prince). On this day, several things happen, but one of the most noticeable ones consists of the current monarch giving a speech to the people, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. This isn’t just a tradition. It is recorded within the Dutch constitution. In Article 65, you can find many rules concerning Prinsjesdag and the monarch’s speech.
